about me
I am a soon to be graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station (Whoop!). My educational background is in the biological sciences, but more specifically biomedical science. Before finding my passion for intellectual property law, my aim was to attend medical school to become a physician. Because of this early interest in medical school, I spent many hours shadowing doctors in specialties from neurosurgery to allergy and immunology. It was through these experiences I was able to see firsthand how medical devices and new technologies were introduced to medical practice and this was fascinating to me! I loved talking to product representatives and learning all about how these cutting edge technologies worked, so I began down a new path towards intellectual property law.
My first foray into intellectual property law came as an internship at a start-up, R&D company called Bondwell Technologies. Before accepting this position I was fairly certain that I wanted to work with IP; however, it wasn’t until after I started working with the inventors that I knew for sure that IP was my calling. Without going into the specifics of the technology, I can say that I was absolutely enthralled with what they had created and that I could not wait to see how they would commercialize it in the future. It was an unbelievable feeling to see such a cutting-edge technology, that I know will become very successful, in its fledgling stages. After the completion of this internship I began another job working for the Texas A&M School of Innovation to help create an educational series for inventors at A&M to help prevent some of the IP missteps that are so common among research professionals. It was because of my experience working with Bondwell Technologies and hearing how they stumbled through the patent process due to a lack of IP knowledge, that I became very passionate about the educational program that I helped to create.
In both of these jobs I grew my knowledge and skills with intellectual property considerably and I now have plans to sit for the patent bar in the near future to become a fully licensed patent agent. Because of my experiences working with both intellectual property professionals and inventors, I now feel that I can offer a valuable service to any IP firm looking for a motivated and professional assistant! A few of my most notable qualifications include knowledge of the MPEP, how to communicate effectively with inventors, how to conduct prior art searches, and how to use my technical background to understand scientifically advanced technologies. These qualifications are commensurate with the typical job requirements of a patent agent; however, the only thing that is missing from my profile is litigation experience. I am fully committed to gaining experience in anyway that I can and would be enormously thankful for any opportunity to do so! This all to say that if hired I will make myself one of the hardest working and most passionate employees you could ask for!
Experience
texas a&m School of innovation, college station
September 2018- January 2019
Beginning in January 2019, I began writing a continuing education curriculum for research faculty and staff about the the intellectual property and technology commercialization process. My contributions on this project include providing the original idea for the educational series, gathering information about intellectual property law, consulting with intellectual property attorneys, organizing discussion between myself and business school faculty about technology commercialization, and planning the creative delivery strategies for the curriculum.
Bondwell Technologies, COLLEGE sTATION
January 2019 - Present
As an intern at Bondwell Technologies, a biotechnology start-up, I drafted provisional patent applications, helped draft office action replies, conducted prior art searches, learned about IP strategies for platform technologies, learned about University technology licensing, and wrote H.R policies on researcher compensation. In addition, I was required to thoroughly understand the biochemical components of the company’s complex, protein based product. In order to fully understand how the technology was created and its best mode, I communicated on a daily basis with the inventors and learned how to distill the scientifically complex descriptions I was given into more accessible summaries which were included on the patent applications.
AOP CONNECT
January 2018 - Present
I work as a freelance prior art researcher through an online patent search company called AOP Connect. While working for this company I have honed my research abilities through conducting many State-of- the-Art and Evidence of Use searches. This experience has also allowed me to broaden the scope of my experience with different types of technology from mechanical engineering products, computer software, encryption devices, biopharmaceuticals, and biotechnology to name a few.
